Hand-crafted from Sam Nottleman
In the early 19th century hunters were using large bored shotguns to assault rafts of Canvasback ducks, which was responsible for killing dozens of birds at one time. After the birds were killed they were shipped out east to Baltimore markets in canvas bags. The canvas bags that were used to ship these sought after divers were labeled with "CANVASBACK", which meant to the dealers to send the empty canvas bag back for re-use. As history tells us this may have been the origin of the name Canvasback. This is an extremely interesting duck with great features such as large webbed feet, which enables it to be such an agile underwater swimmer.
